Leslie was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan. After high school, she studied nursing at Henry Ford Community College. Though she excelled at her nursing studies, it was during this time that Leslie's thoughts turned toward teaching. As a result, Leslie transferred to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan where she undertook studies in K-8 education and early childhood development.
Leslie has home schooled all five of the Peterson children...and is a passionate and driven educator. Leslie is an avid reader and enjoys all things related to alpacas and fiber, spinning, weaving, gardening and, fortunately for all of us, cooking!
Aside from her work at home and at Drummond Farms, Leslie has served for five years as the Education Chair for the Upper Midwest Alpacas association and served many years as the Volunteer Coordinator of the Minnesota Alpaca Expo. Leslie is a great source of information and inspiration for our clients getting started with alpacas as well as those well versed in animal husbandry looking for new thoughts, ideas and methods being discussed and practiced in the Alpaca community.
